Week 7 9/24 Lima Peru Dudes
Well, I thought id never get this far hahah... I am finally in Lima, Peru! It was a huge adventure to get here. So we left the MTC at 12:30 for our flight which was at 430. We sat in the airport on our bags for like 2 hours and then finally boarded. But right before the airplane left the gate they said we popped a tire or something and the landing gear was broken hahah! so we sat in the airplane at the gate for 2 hours, they didnt fix it so they had us get off and we sat at the gate for like 5 more hours, yeah it sucked I know. A bunch of missionaries started teaching the people that were on the plane with us. After 5 hours we got on the plane at 10ish and flew to peru. We landed at 4ish in the morning. Right out of the airport we got on a bus and went to the police station to do fingerprints and visa stuff. After 3 hours there we went to a immigartion office where we sat there for like 4 hours. Whats funny about this office is, that its literally in a parking garage. Like its a circle cement parking garage and in the middle is an office. I wish i took of picture cause it was the most insane thing ever. Anways we went to a hotel afterwards and chilled there unitl the morning, got up at 530 and waited for a bus that didnt even show up until 8. So pretty much we lost 2 hours of sleep. Also if you didnt know here in Peru the missionaries all get up at 730 instead of 630... way awesome, I know!!
I met my trainer Elder T. He lives her in Peru and doesnt speek any english hahah. So we dont talk a ton but just small talk a lot of the time. Hes really nice and has been on the mission for 1 year. Im still trying to figure out how to learn spanish when i dont have a way of learning what a word means, cause everytime i ask him, he doesnt know how to explain it in spanish. So that sucks but its okay.
Okay now the actually missionary work!! hahah
So wednesday we went out and knocked some doors and also teach some appointments. We met with an older lady probably around 40. Her name is Margot and is super awesome. She has 2 kids and she wants to learn more about the church. We taught her the first lesson and she accepted MY invitation for baptism for the 20th of October!! I know what awesome, i know how to ask someone to be baptised in spanish. So pretty much i can walk around saying that and baptise the entire city hahah. We had one more lesson with her on thursday about word of wisdom. Since she doesnt have any problems with that, she basically ready for baptism hahah. JK. we have a couple more lessons with her. But shes been reading and but not praying much. So hopefully she will improve that this week.
That same day we met with another lady named Norma, She has 2 kids and is in the same boat as Margot. Super awesome, wants to know more but just needs to follow up on our commitments. She accepted baptism for the 13th october aswell!! Her only problem we are helping her with is Word of Wisdom, she drinks a lot of coffee. We will be working with her on that this week. But weve had 2-3 lessons with her and she is doing great, always improving.
Sarai is a 21 year old who moved her by herself from venezuela. They moved her cause theres a war or something going on there. Anways she is super shy, like super shy. She talks so quietly and fast i can barely understand a word she says. She always doesnt pay attention much. Like well be talking with her... i mean Elder Torress will be talking with her and she will just like stop paying attention. I dont know how to explain it hahah. We taught her at the park and she brought her dog and randomly shell just starting playing with our dog and not even talk to us. I think she might be a little depressed or sad and just wants someone to talk to. Which is great, whoelse better to talk to than the missionaries. She accepted baptism as well for the 13th of october!! We will continue to teach her!
The food here is good, I havnt had anything that weird yet. Yesterday we ate at a super rich members house and we had fish. They pretty much took the entire fish and cooked it. Cut it up and served with rice and fried banana. It was super good!! The people here and so freaking nice its not even funny. Like evertime we knock doors they say we can come back another day, and theyll give us their name and phone number!!
We are trying really had to get people to commit to a baptismal date. Cause when they do, they follow up on our other commitments as well, like reading and praying! Plus it makes the weeks so much easier knowing that we have a baptism coming up hahah!
