Week 24 1/14
I don't have much to mention to you guys this week... again. It's been
really slow here in Maranga. Even though its felt super fast, the
proselyting has been really slow. So I decided want to give account of
one missionary here in Lima.
I don't remember his name but president strong told us his story and its super inspiring.
This Elder, Elder Sanchez, not really his name but we are going to call him
that, came here to the mission a little of a year ago. He left his
family, friends, and his studies like all the missionaries here. When he
had about 8 months in the mission Elder Sanchez received a call from the
mission president. This call changed his life forever. He found out that
his mother had died from cancer. As hard as this would have been for
Elder Sanchez, he remembered the promise he had made to the Lord to
serve his 2 years here in Lima.
I don't even want to imagine how that
next month was for him. Walking around all day in the heat, being
rejected, all while in his mind he knew he was never going to see his
mother again. This is a disciple of Christ. Not long after, another call
from President Strong. Elder Sanchez was informed once again that one
of his family members had died, his father. While traveling, his father
was in a car crash and died.
Now I don't know about you guys, but this is
enough to break anyone down into a dust. Not long ago this Elder was
with his family hugging and kissing them goodbye, but now to know he'll
never seen them again. He explained to President that he didn't want to
go home. He wanted to stay here in Peru and serve the people that are
waiting his message of love, peace, family, and eternal life.
“Therefore, all ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.” (D&C 4:2)
This Elder literally had this scripture tattooed on his heart!
Sorry I didn't have a ton of time to write a super good, detailed story of
Elder Sanchez. But i hope you can make something out of this.
Love You All,
Elder Kohlert
